FORRÓ (Brazilian partner dance) is a democratic rhythm with influences from South American Indians, Africans and Europeans, captivating people of all ages and social classes, not only in Brazil, but throughout the world……..now it has arrived right here in Cape Town !!!
We dance FORRÓ at Quilombo every Thursday night and offer a FREE beginner class to both Brazilians and “Gringos” (word used for non-Brazilians by Brazilians) at 9pm. See a video or some photos.
The word FORRÓ is often associated with the English expression FOR ALL. British engineers contracted to build the Great Western trainline in Pernambuco (North East of Brazil) would often throw parties open to the general public……FOR ALL.….which became FORRÓ when pronounced by the locals.
Every Thursday night our Quilombo is 100% FORRÓ……and very FOR ALL at the same time !!!
