The most beautiful drive in the in the country is in the Cape, a spectacular road, known as Chapman’s Peak Drive, hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain from Hout Bay to N
oordhoek. Hacked out of the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922, the road was at the time regarded as a major feat of engineering.
It is from here we sip wine and watch the sun set into the ocean with the Sentinel and Hout Bay across the water.
Closed in the 1990s, after a rockfall and recently reopened after being re – engineered to protect motorists from falling rocks.Chapman’s Peak Drive is part of the route of two of South Africa’s biggest mass – participation races, the Cape Argus Cycle Race and the Two Oceans Marathon. The Cape Argus recently received permission to open the road for use by the tens of thousands of cyclists.
A spectacular view of the southern suburbs with Table Mountain in the distance from the entrance to Silvermine Nature Reserve, even better with the full MOooOn rising in the distance!!
