Lion’s Head and Signal Hill

The stunning sunsets over the Atlantic from the top of Lion’s Head and Signal Hill are already legendary……..just imagine watching a full moon rise at the same time !!!

sunset 12 apostlesOur next sunset picnic will be on Tuesday 24 August to take in the next Full Moon rise over the city.

Lion’s Head:

At an altitude of 669m non-smokers surely have the advantage climbing to the summit. Catch your breath along the steep path while admiring the great views which will inspire you to carry on further. You will wind your way around the lions head until you reach the chains taking you to the very top. The chains are there to assist you as you scramble up a section of rocky faces. They add an element of adventure, but be cautious and take it slowly. Not suitable for young children and the elderly. There is an alternate route to miss the chains but the path is still quite steep. Count on an accent of around 90 min, including generous stops to take in the view, photos or just to get your breath back!!!

Signal Hill:

At an altitude of 350m and a road that leads all the way to a picnic area at the top, this is the perfect option for those not wanting to break a sweat in order to enjoy a majestic sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. The famous Signal Hill noon-gun is fired at 12h00 each day except Sundays. The gun was originally used to announce to the interior the arrival of a ship, perhaps requiring provisions for a trip onward to India. In addition to a spectacular sunset, Signal Hill offers views of the new football stadium in Green Point, Robben Island, Sea Point, Table Mountain, the City Centre and Table Bay.

Whether you climb Lion’s Head or picnic on Signal Hill you will meet Brazilians who are in Cape Town to improve their English, meet locals and enjoy everything Cape Town has to offer!
